The first thing that comes to mind is I have never had a female survive giving birth that was obviously pregnant when I got her, not live bearers period. I think it has to do with the stress of transport, overcrowding in the LFS and just plain stress.

Another thing is they could be older.

One other could be the male to female ratio. If there are too many males, then the pregnant females could be harrassed so much it stresses them out so bad that giving birth results in their demise.

3:1 female to male is a good ratio with 8:1 in a breeder tank being even better. Even at that ration you will have plenty of babies from only 3 males with 30 females.

Thanks. Makes me feel better. There is only 1 adult male, and one Juvie. I figured most of the females would give birth, and why waste space on males... :twisted:

They are fancy guppies.

My black tails are fine, but the half black/blue tails and the round tail reds dont make it.

At least I have lots of fry :^)

 

Fish 4 all has it right, IMO another thing is it's just the blood line of todays guppies. They have all been in breed so much til the spices isn't as strong as it use to be. Back in the day guppies would live throw almost anything. I mean they'd live in a inch of water in the bottom of a tank with no heater of anything even setting on a shelve in your garge for months and now you have to drip fill there bag before you release them into your tank. It take 3 times as long to get them ready to go into the new tank then any other fish. It's almost like the german blue rams you have to drip adjust there bag water with tank water for a hour before you can release them.

Then I guess I know what I'll be working on with my guppies. Survival of the fittest will rule.
Lets see what comes out of it color wise.

Actually, I've found discus to be a very hardy fish lately. Mine are in 7.4 Ph and hard water. Go figure.
