Firstly my guppy dies this morning!! It was on its side lying on the bottom of the tank and then it started sort of swimmin side ways so i left it in ther and about 2 hours later it was just lying under the driftwood dead.......................
Secondly hence posting in the equipment bit, my filter is incredably noisy?! It has been noisysince i got it but i found a way to quieten it, but this morning it waas really really noisy... So i did a water change because of the sick fish then i cleaned out my filter. Still very noisy.. Any 1 have any ideas solutions, im phoning the fish shop and if theres nothing they can do i am thinking og giving the fish away and puttigjn the tank in storgae... The filter is an Aquael filter... And if i did have to pack it away it would mean i have lost nearly a ÂŁ100.........................................

:greenyay: I have an idea about the filter. When you put it on it makes noise right?? so turn it on in the day and before u go to bed turn it off. The fish won't run out of oxygen that fast...

Glad you got it figured out...

Usually when my filter starts making noise it's due to something vibrating against something... and I just muck around with it until it quiets down again. It could be the lid got misaligned somehow, or I'll wiggle the flow adjustment back and forth a bit until I can get it sitting in a spot where the vibration goes away... or else it'll be loud if there's something clogged at the intake.

i avoid playing with my filter parts, i once tried to fix an aquaclear impeller that was making noise and it ended up getting bent a little, but was quieter, dunno why, but it eventually caught on the edge of something, fried my motor and spilled 10 gallons of water all over my hardwood floor, soaked through the wood, and went into my basement, damaged 2 cieling tiles and made my luggage cases that were stored there moldy. Needless to say i am never going to try and fix my own filter ever again...

no it was terrible, had to spend like 5 hrs to mop and move all the luggage cases outside to air out. I still havent changed the cieling tiles, they have these brownish stains on them and i still havent moved my tank to fix the floor, sometimes i wonder if my tank will just fall through the ground cuz the wood is weakened by water... ANYWAY, moral of the story: dont play with filter impellers.

Sounds terrible. But aren't you supposed to clean the impellor once a month?

You have mechanical and biological filtration, right? The filter you are useing appears to be an aerator. The noisy filter isn't the only filter is it?

yea u clean it, mine was making noises so i was pushing the impeller around seeing if i could alter its positioning just a little. rinsing it and brushing it is fine. My impeller was rubbing against the side of the filter intake area so it was making a light humming noise which wasnt so bad but it was annoying as hell so i thought if i could bend it away a little it would be ok, but the plastic didnt bend just the metal.

Hey fishies, this is kind of an older thread. I think the issue is resolved.:)
