Fan-tails? As in goldfish?

You can't mix goldfish (cold-water) with live-bearers (warm-water).

Why are you planning on breeding fish?

...77 F is getting a bit high for goldfish, some sources list 60-65 as ideal, others say 70-75 F...and he might be doing well now...but as a rule the water is too warm for long term success and health...

Fancy goldfish are also less hardy than the single finned varieties, so if you have a small comet he might be more tolerant than if you had a black moor for example...but that's another huge discussion...

...and then again, you could have one of the exceptions to the rule...

Heh...rules ARE meant to be broken...

I don't see a problem as long as the tnak is large enough. With 3 fancies and adding live bearers you need to have at least a 55 if not larger.

I also know other fish keepers that have kept goldfish of many different species in heated tanks at 78-80 for well over 8 years. They were huge but did not have any health problems and were some of the nicest looking goldfish I have ever seen.
