I saw what I'm pretty certain were cichlids in a LFS the other day. I think they were young, as they were only about and inch and a half long. They were medium to dark brown with black spots. Any idea what these might have been?

Wish I HAD gotten pictures. The clerk was busy with someone else, so I couldn't ask, and then forgot when I was leaving. I thought maybe you'd have an idea from their color.

Just looked up Jaguar cichlids, and the coloring is wrong (unless its quite a bit different in young fish). The jaguars look to be a lighter brown with black spots. These fish were a lot darker brown.

Looks like none of them would go well in a community tank anyway. I just thought they were neat looking, but suspected they'd get much larger. Thanks for going to all the trouble to look them all up, Fishyfish!

Nope, not that one either, Moneymitch. The colors are reversed. These have a dark background with lighter spots. The ones I saw had a lighter background with black spots. Oh well, maybe I'll never know, as I won't be going back to that LFS for a while. Thanks to all of you for trying to solve the mystery!
