There is a test kit for this, API GH/KH test, probably about $10 or have the store test it (I don't know if they will but you can ask). Generally you can test it once and not really need to test it again as the hardness from a well doesn't vary much.We don't have a water supplier, we have well water
I have water that comes out at 23dGH, which is hard but hard can be anything from 9dGH and up... there is quite a range and the difference between 10 dGH and 20 dGH can make a huge difference in what fish you can keep without trying to mess with the water to match the fish.
