Hello peoples!

I went and got my live rock today for my ten gallon nano reef, already cured, straight from the LFS corals display tank, and I found this clam attached to the inside of one of the holes running through the biggest piece.

My questions to you are:
1)what is it?

2)is it desirable?

3)if it is desirable, how do I keep it alive?

I also found what looks to be a bit of a coral growing on one of the rocks.

let me know what you think these things are!

sorry about the picture quality, it's hard to get a point and shoot camera to focus on the inside of dark hole.

At first glance your clam looks to be a scallop. It could be a jewel box (AKA Dime box) clam. They are quite common. Regular tank maintenance to keep either alive.

I definitely saw a nice mushroom in the second pic. As to the other I'm guessing it's a sponge that has grown into a nice shape.

cool, thanks for the info. I think that what you thought was a mushroom, was merely the cheap plastic bg I put on the tank, the hole in the rock goes straight through to the other side.

Thanks again! I'm gonna wait a couple of weeks, and then I'll add a few fish!
