The other day I noticed that there were little buds of some sort with legs or hair or whatever attached to the glass of my tank. The buds themselves are attached to the glass sides and the legs/hair wave around in the water. Anyone know what the heck those things are? They're everywhere.

They are called hydra. They eat micro organisms in the water. They won't hurt anything unless you have baby shrimp or small fry. I like them but some people think they're annoying.

Phew, nothing to be concerned about! Do you know where they come from and if my fish will eat them? Thanks!

Ohh I don't like Hydras either! Probably can in on plants if you live plants.

Some fish will eat them some won't.

My tanks get them when I overfeed brine shrimp.
Mollies and some gourami are supposed to eat them, as are ramshorn snails. I have never seen any fish willing to eat them. I usually crush them against the glass, for all the good it does.
