Are you running a fishless cycling? How long has the tank been cycling?

You'll need to zero ammonia and nitrites in the end of cycling to be able to place your new fish.

A big water change by 50-60% should reduce the nitrates, ammonia and nitrites. Andrew, ammonia and nitrites are also something to be concern of. Both are toxic to the fish.

Do 10-15% water change daily after the big water change to make sure ammonia and nitrites do not increase or you'll only lose your fish.

thanks alot for that. What is the tank requirements (tank size) for discuss fish. I really like them but unsure about the size of tank they need. Mine is a 125l.

220-300 liters is the minimum.
