Hi everyone,

I'm just asking this question because I'm impatient....

About a week ago my jungle vallisneria plant started growing a runner. And a day or so later the runner had dived down into the gravel. Just curious if this is normal? And when I should expect it to emerge with plantlets? I love vallisneria and someday I'd like a little part of my tank to be a "jungle" of it. =P

My val did the same thing. After the new plant formed, the runner kept going, and I was getting a new plant every 4-6 weeks, spaced about 3-5 inches apart. The original plant was in a back corner, and the runner stretched plants out in a straight line across the back of the tank. I really like vals, too.

Thanks! For some reason I thought I read that the runners grew above the substrate, so I was wondering why it dove down into the gravel. I checked today and I see a little baby vallisneria growing 2 inches away. I'm excited; I really like vallisneria too! It's my favorite plant I think..

When I had this plant it did the same thing for the most part. The runners would almost always be under the gravel but sometimes they would stay above and new plantlets would form and send roots down into the gravel. As far as propagation once the plantlets are big enough and have enough roots of their own to survive you can cut them away from the mother plant and plant them where you want too. Once they are established they will eventually start sending runners off of their own.

Am sure you will. Mine would spread like wild fire! It also got to huge for me!!
