We are under a winter snow and weather advisory until Monday AM. We have had this advisory since late Friday PM. While on the forum Saturday night/Sunday morning, I looked outside of the window. It was almost a white out. Then I saw this bright flash followed by a HUGE clap of thunder. I almost soiled my laundry. Must be the effects of global warming, huh?

We tend to go in more for rain than snow, though through Dec - Feb snow is quite common. Only had one incident of snow so far this year a week or 2 back.

I don't remember having a combination of all three before. Smow and wing yes, thunder, lightening and rain, yes, but never snow with thunder and lightening. Sounds good. I love being all warm and inside when the weather is disgusting outside. :)

UPDATE

Well, it's Sunday PM. The snow stopped a few hours ago. We are now experiencing 30mph winds with 40mph gusts. We've made it through the worst, I believe. Power stayed on although the lights did flicker a couple of times. It looks like there may be about 8"-10" on the ground. I can't really tell because of the drifting.

Hannah, our Boston Terrier pup, has a hard time navigating outside. She is only about 9" tall. Watching her try to fine a place to do her duty is kind of comical. She fell through a 24" drift and just about spazzed out. I had to rescue her. Didn't have any rum, though. Momma finished the last of that last night drinking Pina Coladas.

I was out a little while ago, needed to get a paper. Besides, I wanted to see what the conditions were like on the outside. Road crews have done a very good job and the main highways. The side streets, wel, that is a different story. Crews will probably get the butts handed to them overnight. No traffic to help keep the roads clear.

Well, I'll update in the morning. I must say that I'm glad I don't live in the Northeast. I hear they may have gotten it worse than us in the Great Lakes area. It sure does seem like we have had a lot of extreme weather around lately, rains in the Northwest, ice across the Plains............

We have no snow, no rain, no wind, nothing. It is only dark all day long, and unbearably dark in the mornings and in the evenings.

We have heard about the terrible snow storms in America.

Glad to hear you made it through the storm alright, herefishy!

Mirta, I was going to ask where you are from, but then I remembered I could just click the Phoogle Map link beneath your post. How long before the darkness you described ends?

I didn't think that there was 24 hour darkness as far south as you Mirta. Just goes to show how the world really is changing. Clicking on the map shows you and I are roughly at the same level, just that you are further east. Maybe I should take a trip to the Shetland Islands or the very tip of Scotland and see how dark it is. :)

We have a lot of darkness but not 24 hour like you, between 10am and 3pm there is daylight, an hour either way very dull and more than an hour either way blackness. I dn't mind though - in actual fact I quite like it. It feels very wintery which is my favourite season. :)

*Edit* Darkness has nothing to do with global warming, sorry, moment of silliness there.

It is not completely dark during the day as it is in the North. However, on cloudy and gloomy days (which prevail) we see very little light this time of the year. Almost no sunshine! The days are also the shortest, so when I go to work in the morn it is as dark as night and when I come home in the afternoon it is already night. People do not see the Sun at all. That is why Christmas has a very special meaning here!

I guess that this time of year would be a bad time for many of us to work on our suntans. lol

Just to keep everyone posted. Weather here is warming up. We still are having extreme wind chill warnings in the mornings and through the night. But, the temps throughout the day is melting some of the snow, go figure.

all it is is snow here. A peaceful soft blanket of snow that covers the hard brittle ground creates an ellegant sight and a peaceful brightness that brings delight to my soul every time i awake and see it gleaming softly. i slowly walk through the woods to be careful to capture every detail of beautiful icicles and sparkels created by snow and store it in my mind, taking advantage of every tool, and ability of my mind to come close to comprehending the sheer beauty of the north Minnesota woods. But the Daytime gets old and fades away into the peaceful, cool, evening; that creates a golden sunset coating evert bit of snow with a light orange glaze. i wander back into my house to discover that i sit and type on FishForum.com.----little something from my feminine side.

WOW! That is Winter Wonderland, isn't it? I am happy to hear that the storm has calmed down. Although I think that storms are refreshing and even though they may be severe we need them.

We still have no snow, and they say there will be no snow till mid January. This is not typical for this part of Europe, though. Motorist appreciate the absence of snow, but without it we lose the magic of the season and also the light that it gives in this part of the year.

Falina, you are right, you should be about the same or even further North. It is in Finland where it gets really dark. But when the sky is overcast (cloudy, mostly), the difference between day and night is slight. Christmas will save us from the Dark! :)
