Rhizome... really. Never noticed, it's obviously not the same as a java fern, those or pretty obvious. I attached another shot, the white root bits to the left are part of this same plant and they had started to green up before I got it.

Jeff.
That plant looks very similar to two plants I recently received on an online order. They were supposed to be Cryptocoryne Ciliata; however, the photo on the website didn't look much like what I received. To me, they look more like Cryptocoryne Pontederifolia but, again this is from a photo on the same website.

The lilies have worked well for me so far in my 55g with two 6500k T8 tubes. The lily pads seem to get to the surface in a couple of days. I don't want the lily pads and try to keep them pruned back.. At the advice of a friend, I buried them about half way and use root tabs with them. Placing the bulbs on top of the substrate is a popular way to handle should work out fine. A rich substrate in apparently appreciated. By the way, My plants are tiger lotus and have stayed kind of a dull red.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder I suppose; however, your tank still looks great. I have seen tanks with 2-3 species of plants that look incredible and tanks with a wide variety of plants that look beautiful. The tanks with few species tend to be theme or regional in make up. The wide variety approach achieves a lush jungle effect. You have a wet green thumb. I'm finally learning to go with what works. That has led me to the rosettes. If I had success with the stems, my tanks would probably contain a wider variety.
