Hi all.

I've been considering adding a school of one of hardier species of tetra to my recently cycled aquarium, but am unsure whether my water is appropriate for tetra species.

My Ph is 7.7, which I know is generally considered too high for most tetra, however my water is fairly soft, with a Kh of 36ppm and Gh of 44ppm.

The species I am most interested in include Black Phantoms, Lemon Tetras, Emperor Tetras, Black Neons and Rosy Tetra.

Are they appropriate for my conditions and will they thrive?

I have read through the excellent species profiles and this site and several others, which tend to recommend a lower Ph, but I wonder whether it is really the hardness that is more important than the Ph?

Thanks

Hi keywan and welcome to the forum. :)

All of the tetras you are thinking of adding are pretty hardy in regards to pH, especially since your hardness is on the softer side. They may not show their best colors and they may not breed but they should survive and otherwise thrive in your water parameters. Good luck!
