Not every shrimp will pair up with every goby, in fact there are only a few that will. The shrimp will 99.9% of the time be a pistol shrimp, also called a snapping shrimp. The pistol shrimp is a bottom dwelling shrimp that digs a hole in the sand to live in. The reason that other shrimp don't pair up with gobies is that they are not generally bottom dwellers. The gobies in the pair are mainly from two families the Stonogobiops and Amblygobius. These fish will for the most part pair up with a shrimp. Some of the other common gobies that pair up are Yellow Watchmen Goby, Yasha Goby, High Fin Goby, Orange Spotted goby, Pinkbar Goby, and Steinitz Goby. These are just a few; and keep in mind that each fish and shrimp is different so they aren't guaranteed to pair up. And to be a buzz killer I am not sure that a panda goby and pistol shrimp will pair up because a Panda Goby spends most of its time of the rocks instead of the sand. Keep up the good work and good luck picking out some fish! What type of shrimp can i have that will pair up with a goby, and what kind of goby will pair up with the shrimp?
