20 danios. all alive
Result have been low most of they time just checked now they are
Ammonia 8+
Nitrite 2
Nitrate 10

Hi Tony. A reading of 6ppm is highly toxic to your fish, and I would suggest that you start to do a series of large water changes, starting immediately.

During cycling, I alway ensure that my ammonia reading doesn't go beyond 0.5.

Ditto what Katey said.

She did not indicate that her post was directed to the ammonia concentration.

I hope you meant 0.8 ammonia because as Katey indicated values above 1.5 are very toxic and values above 5.0 are fatal.

hmm your lucky you have danios, almost any other fish would have died from those readings :). Do 50% water changes daily until the reading gets <0.5. Make sure you dont use any ammonia removing chemicals

With the 50% WC and your readings IMHO you are back on track with respect to the ammonia concentration as well as the nitrite concentration (you may be on the decreasing ammonia concentration leg of the triangle).

Also IMHO I would keep testing and unless future readings predicate differently doing 25% weekly water changes until and subsequent to the tank cycling.

Frequent 50% WC's are necessary in emergencies but when a tank is cycling these changes disrupt the production of the digestive bacteria.
