Recently purchased a 29 gal tank with the dimensions of 30 1/4" long x 12 1/4" wide x 22 3/4" high. Believe it is a 29 gal tall. The center brace is missing and could be replaced with some epoxy and new fabricated center brace. My question is will this tank be useable( without new leaks) with the center brace missing? Or should I go ahead and replace the brace?
Would like to have a top cover to fit the entire length which is currently available for tanks without the center brace. To date I haven't found the two piece tank covers to fit this size tank.
With the center brace being of similar to my 55 gal tank that has a spacer strip of 9/16" wide between the two standard tank cover segments. I could easily take two 10 gal tank covers and cut down the glass and the plastic section to fit the new center support bar spacing. Plan to use some acetal rectangles machined to give support similar to my 55 gal tank. Appreciate any input concerning this issue.
Thanks.

It depends on the tank's construction. My 80gal doesn't have any, but my old 55gal did. The 80gal has an extra heavy duty frame all the way around, the 55gal only has a top and bottom frame so the brace makes sense. A cracked tank is no fun so I'd go for a brace. I made custom acrylic lids for about 45$. Glass is cheaper, but I couldn't cut it without special tools.
