Hello everyone! I'm happy to announce that my very first tank just finished cycling the other day. I have a school of 10 neon tetras (rather beginner of me, I know) and 1 pleco. Just looking for any suggestions on what to add next. There's plenty of room in my 29 gal tank for more fish. Maybe another pleco and two angel fish? Is that suitable or should only one pleco roam a medium sized tank? If you think I could fit more than another 3 fish I'm very open to that as well. Thanks for reading this amigos.
Many of the common plecos can grow to eighteen inches or longer and will do poorly at this size in 29 gal tank.
The pleco could reach twelve inches in a year, depending on size when purchased.
Many are those who buy these fish as algae eater's or "cleaner fish".
The common pleco often loses interest in algae when it realizes,, that fish food is easier for it to search for and they produce a ton of waste(poop) so they really don't clean the tank for they increase the poop in the tank quite a bit.
Smaller plecos are out there, and are perhaps not offered as often. I would consider Bristlenose Pleco who max out at around 6 inches but four or five inches is prolly more realistic.
Angelfish will make quick snacks of small fishes such as terta's as the Angelfish matures, and this fish also would grow too large for 29 gal tank.
Is difficult to suggest fishes when we have no idea what your water is like with respect to pH,general hardness(GH) and or Carbonate hardness (KH).
Perhaps water company could provide you this information (call em) which would in turn make fish recommendations much easier.
Not all fish enjoy same water chemistry,not all fish will get along with other fishes,Adult size of fish should be consideration,types of fish dictate types of foods offered.
