How we doing everyone? My 36g tank is currently lit using a 17W T8 24" bulb that came with the tank as a set. It's an Aqueon if that matters at all.

Now, I noticed that Aqueon makes LED light bars for its tanks that aren't overly expensive. I was wondering if it would make sense to switch to the LED lights.

My tank currently has the following plants:
Marimo Mass Ball
Java Moss
Java Fern
Water Wisteria
2 varieties of Water Sprite. One is planted the other is floating.

I don't think that LED comes recommended for plants.

The new LEDs can support plants, but the first introductions can't. My girlfriend is pretty knowledgable about LEDs - she'll be by later.

Yeah, the only LED's that will really support plants are the more expensive ones from my experience. I've used the Aqueon and the Marineland strips and they did nothing for my plants. The Finnex FugeRay Planted+ has been growing my medium-high light plants pretty decently!

LED absolutely can support plants and some are really fantastic like the fluval plant and aqua life LED..
I do agree the finnex fugeray planted plus is a reasonably priced option that has a nice PAR output that they even publish openly on their site .

Now if the plants you currently have are all you want then the LEDs you were talking about should be sufficient for a 36bow. If the depth causes issues for your wysteria you can float it.
