3 days ago I noticed small brown spots that were blooming on the glass of my tank, after reading about algae eaters I decided to go out and get some. I introduced two oto catfish to gobble up some algae. (carefully introducing them to the tank which took about 3 hours)
Today I noticed something else in my tank eating away at the algae, I spotted 3 small snails. I did not purchase them, They must have came with the plants I purchased 2 weeks ago. I pulled the plug on my return pump to get a closer look, then that's when I noticed something else in my tank moving. Small whit spots moving around like mosquito like movements........ shrimp! So now i have snails and shrimp in my tank!!! They def came with the plants, the seller sold both but I decided not to purchase since this tank was new.
anyhow I would like to keep them BUT first I have some questions.
I have a bio cube 29 gal tank that i am running, besides new LED lights everything on the tank is original. Im currently using the original return pump too, its a 1200 max jet pump, I know this is overkill for my freshwater setup because this tank was originaly made for saltwater. If I wanted to keep the shrimp and care for them what type of pump size should i be looking for? 200? 300? 400?
Im on my way out to grab some algae wafers to feed my otos, I read shrimp like to eat these too. I have 3 plattys that i hope wont eat the shrimp because they are so small atm. My main concern is the return pump, all the videos iv seen that care for shrimp have standing water. any advice would be helpful as its been 1 month since iv started this new tank.
