I regret to advise that Ralph, my African Elephant Nose, got out of the aquarium last night and was found dead on the floor this morning
. I could not have been more horrified when I found him behind the tank. I had read that they are notorious for escaping, as they have a very large brain-to-body ratio (higher than that of human beings apparently), and are aware that they are in a glass box and want to go live in the 'bigger water' on the other side. Unfortunately they aren't smart enough to realize that we, on the othe side, do not live in water. The space that he escaped from was only the very small opening that the hang-on-back filter occupies. Ralph was a big fish, how he got out is a mystery to me.
R.I.P. Ralph.
