Byron got kudos (and rightly so) for his tanks, but he was slightly misrepresented as I believe he does not advocate soil based substrates but prefers pure play sand.
(Note that I'm not saying that a mineralized top soil and sand mix is bad as some have had success, but I think just maybe it works better for plants than for fish).
