Either way is fine - I've done it both ways. If you're dealing with white hard water stains, I'd go with straight vinegar. Just don't forget to rinse well .

Silly question about white vinegar
When cleaning a marine tank to be used as a tropical tank I was advised to use white vinegar.
The question is do I dilute the vinegar or use it neat?
