I was wondering if you guys could help me find the reason for my XP2 canister leak. About 2 hours ago I started seeing a quick decrease in my water level and I didn't pay it any attention until it got a little lower, then I realized my canister was leaking.

I used the quick disconnect and unplugged it and I dumped all the water, restacked the baskets. I checked for a crack around the housing and couldn't find anything either, it is leaking around the clamps in the back near the hoses, it is not leaking out of any other places but near those 2 back clamps.

I checked the o-ring and couldn't find anything wrong but I might replace it just to be safe, I also noticed that the back clamps are not clamping as hard as the front clamps, so I'm not entirely sure what would be causing that either.

Any help would be appreciated.

I had a Rena filter do the same thing. My fix (after talking with the Rena help) was to replace the quick release assembly.

I'm assuming you are referring to the quick disconnect assembly, right?

My canister is not under warranty so I'll have to foot the bill to fix what's wrong, so I'm hoping to be dead on accurate as to where it's leaking before buying any replacement parts.

I finally figured it out. The main seal around the lid was twisted near the corners near the clamps, after removing the entire seal and re-sealing it, it no longer leaks.

glad to hear it was a simple fix. when you said it was leaking near the clamps in the back, that is why i thought the quick disconnect assembly. that is where it leaked out on mine. my 30 gallon was, all of a sudden, down about an inch of water and it was all over the inside of the aquarium cabinet (instant warping and stuff) and all over the floor. swapped another unit in and it still leaked. only constant was the quick disconnect assembly and, talking to the techs, that is what it turned out to be. upon examination after I swapped them out, it looked perfectly fine: tossed it in the recycle bin anyway.

Well, I investigated the quick disconnect assembly fairly well but after switching the pump back on it was easy to realize it wasn't leaking near the assembly but rather around the rim. I'm still trying to figure out how the seal twisted itself while the lid was still on though, as that appeared rather odd to me. But it gave me a good excuse to do maintenance on the canister anyways
