i have 2 small (3") red pacus. i have them in a tank with 6 zebra danios.... they seem to get along great now but when i first put the zebras in the pacu chased one all around but couldnt catch him.... now they seem to just live together..... will they end up eating the danios?

That is pushing a lot, Ryan.:shake: Ever heard of 'overfiltration'? I had two of these fish in a 75 gallons before. Lovely fish they are. But my passion is too strong with characins.

No ive looked online at everything and 300 gallons seems good. They are very very large fish, both long and tall, the 300 gallons is more for space rather than filtration.

30 inches long, about 10-15 inches tall, add those together, 45 inches adult size, add filtration needs and food, 300 gallons is my summary, Plus how deep they are. Ive seen a pacu as big as a man's torso.... They get pretty darn big.

And they have been known to ram the sides of tanks and break them. When you get into the 300 gallon range, you're talking extra thick tempered glass which may, possibly, and I ain't going to be the one testing this and winding up with 300 gallons of water on my livingroom floor, prevent this.

Frankly, I think you're both right - 75 gallons per pacu sounds reasonable, but 300 gallons sounds like a good minimum size tank.

well its not doing fine, 5 gallon tanks barely fit a betta happily, how can it fit a red belly pacu that should grow to 30 inches in the wild, it is probable living a very unfortunate life and if i was that pacu, i would kill myself in a tank that small. It is very irresponsible of the owner, i hope you dont do it

no it wont fit, it will grow until it takes up the whole space and the growth will be stunted, the organs will grow but the bone structure wont since there isnt enough space, so the organs will start bulging out, i think thats what stunted growth means, correct me if im wrong

They are slow growers but that doesnt give them the right to put it in 5 gallons
