Ok, so the wierdest thing just happened:
I found a fantastic deal on shrimp on e-bay. So, of course I bid. Then, I e-mailed him to ask about return policy. he had a 100% live arrival guarantee so I just asked this. In case of a doa, will a replacement be shipped, or is it money-back? Basically, I wanted to know ifI'd have to pay replacement shipping, if they died, because the shipping was pretty much the whole cost anyway.

So, the guy totally FREAKED! He totally thought I was scamming him, refused to sell to me, and then BLOCKED me!!!
What's up with that? I don't even know what happened! is there something wrong with wanting to be informed on return policies?
I honestly see no problem with a simple question like that unless you were trying to trick someone by selling them dead shrimp.
Seriously people!
Sorry. just needed to vent. i feel better now. :)

I think you asked just the right questions. I also understand his point as well, as I have been scammed as a seller. I think that he may have went a bit overboard, but when you are dealing with live animals or fish, there has to be a definite process for working out mishaps. Keep on asking those questions!

Contact ebay and mention what happened as sellers cannot block you from just asking questions.

It is against ebay policy to block you for asking legitimate questions if the seller does not specify them in the auction listing.

99% of the time, it is the buyer who pays shipping for returning items back to the seller, this policy varies but a lot of the time, a seller will not pay shipping.

I totally agree!! I've never bought or shipped fish or even plants for that reason but if you are spending money on something, you have the right to ask questions and have all the answers you need before you send the money or do the transaction. If the seller has a problem with that? move on.
And chalk this one up to a learning experience! Even the first successful shipment will be a learning experience!!

That does sound a little dramatic to me. I'd def. do what Tazman said and contact e-bay. I'd be curious to hear what they have to say about it.

Good luck on purchasing your shrimp from someone else.

Actually, thinking about it now, it's ok that he blocked me.
I don't want to accidentally end up in a business transaction like that ever again!
Maybe I will contact e-bay anyway though, just to see what they have to say.

I ahve to agree, you did nothing wrong by asking simple but much needed questions. By him flipping out that leads me to think its not the first time someone has come at him with questions like that.... or been burned. Smart move any "good" saler would be mroe then happy to re-issure you of your order.

He/they should definitely be reported to ebay. Too many items have jacked up shipping prices to begin with.

I think that was a bit of an overreaction I know in the past with some sellers if that is in the answers already in faq which I have missed in the passed they get pissy but that is no way to treat a potential customer

well... I made the mistake of e-mailing him back to try and explain (thinking perhaps the question was worded badly). I said sorry you misunderstood my intentions I was just wanting some clarification on return policies, because I was confused.
Then he replies like so:
No, sorry. I'm way too creeped out that you keep contacting me trying to get a refund when you didn't even buy anything! I'm sorry.

Ok, what? This is almost funny! for one, I wasn't asking for a refund, I just wanted to know what a 100% guarantee meant! two, I DID buy something- I bid on his shrimp before he tried to block me!
IMO, one should READ the email BEFORE getting creeped out and blocking people. poor, confused guy. lol.
Whatever. If he doesn't want my money, he don't have to have it. hmpf.
