Ratio of R/O water to tap water?

Hi again,

I apologize ahead of time - if this question has been addressed somewhere (I could not find it). My questions: If I have R/O water (we have a water pruification system in our house) can I use a combination of R/O water and tap water? If I do this - what would be the ratio of R/O water to tap water?

Also _ I am assuming that I still treat whatever tap water I do use, with Prime?

Thanks so much - I didn't realize I was going to have to become a chemist in order to do this fish thing correctly <<{{{{{*>

Yes you can do this, the ratio depends on the hardness & pH of your tap water, the fish you keep, as well as what water parameters you want to see in the tank. Yes, you would add Prime to the tap water mixed with the RO.

Yup, you get to be chemist, biologist, bacteriologist, a whole bunch of ist's along with a bit of electromechanical tossed in the mix. It's a lot of fun, and a life long learning experience.
Forget the elecromechanical - I'm a lost cause there - I think I already managed to wreck a heater by turning it on w/o letting it acclimate to the water first:oops: I must admit - I'm a bit overwhelmed by all of it - but I do love learning AND my three fish look pretty darn happy and healthy!! BTW - you guys are TERRIFIC

Mo (black swordtail). Larry (platy) and Curly(betta) send out a hearty thanks - if I ever figure out how to post pics, I'll send those along. Let's see if I can get through the day w/o any more questions.

The learning curve is a bit steep at first, but certainly nothing insurmountable. Feel free to ask all the questions you need to, it's easier getting it right the first time than trying to backtrack & squaring away any problems.
