i know i was told this before but i forget how you figure what size filter you need.

i am working on a 20 gal tank. so i think i need a filter that handles 200 gph....is that correct?

a typical 20 gallon filter does 100gph but i would reccomend you doing at least 200gph for a 20 gallon, make sure the filter contains a cartridge that you never change and leave in there forever

yes it seems fine but i would reccomend either the penguin bio-wheel or the emporer bio-wheel, those are the most effective in terms of bio filtration as they use wet/dry filters and mechanical and carbon.

If money isn't an issue then I would recommend the Penguin BioWheel as well, if it is an issue, go with Aqua Clear, and buy it off the Amazon site. I love mine, easy to use, cleans nicely, never had problems. I don't know if Emperor/Penguin comes with a lifetime guarantee, but Aqua Clear does.

I don't know what the prices are from Amazon but I have never seen a lower price than HERE.

As for AquaClear vs others, I doubt I will ever use anything but Aquaclear for a HOB. Very little to go wrong, customizeable with 6 different types of media and you can make up your own. No moving parts to foul or stop working. Just an overall great filter, IMO. They keep my tanks pristine and all I have to do is take the sponges out once a week and squeeze them in the tank water to clean them out.
