When I acquired my aquarium...I also rescued several other aquariums from the same trash pick up pile...among them were a really nice large reptile aquarium with double doors in front, the stand it goes on, lights, fake greenery and a lot of stuff in their I haven't even looked at (still can't believe they just were going to send all this great stuff to the landfill).

My wife is a teacher and she has a small class room of about 7 (mostly autistic) children. I thought next year the kids might experience some kind of pet in their class...so...I was wondering if anyone has any ideas what kind of pets might be suitable for such a class. Keep in mind that these kids want to touch everything and will if not closely supervised..so...it wouldn't be good to have something that might bite back.

Any suggestions or advice would be helpful. Thanks.

Either a Leopard Gecko or a Bearded Dragon. A beardie would likely be better as their tails won't fall off if mishandled, but they're generally fairly easy going. Any lizard can escape, so be aware of that. It depends on how big the enclosure is, you want a good 40 gallons for a Beardie, if you get the dimensions of the tank, we can help find out how big it is, or you can google it.

Eh, that's a little small for a Beardie, that's 24 tall, correct? If so, that's a tank for an aboreal lizard, no good for Beardie's or even Leopards. All the Aboreal lizards are escape artists or very sensitive for holding. If you can get a 20 long to start or a 40 gallon breeder (what you'd have to end up with for a Beardie) off the bat, that's best. Best to get them during PetCo's dollar per gallon sale, that's the cheapest time to get tanks. Or look on craiglist too, sometimes you can find a deal.

One of the tanks I rescued is 30" long.

Likely a 20 gallon long, that will work for a juvie as I said, but if you're serious about getting a Beardie, then plan to get a 40 gallon in the future as well :)
