Hi i would like to know what the oily surface on my 55g is and if it is harmful? I think it might be from the pellets i feed my SA cichlids because they let some food particales come out of their mouth when they are eating them but i am not sure???

protein film.and air stone leaved on for a few hours will fix it

Hey, Kitten, is there any other option to deal with this since airstones and planted tanks aren't friends? Or does it not take long enough to really effect a planted tank? Just wondering. I keep having this problem myself.

thats easy.. remember the rule??? plants give out o2 in the morning and takes in co2 but at night it's the other way around.so a few hours of extra o2 to mess up the protein film at night is totally ok.
