Hey-

Brand new to this hobby. I purchased an Aqueon 13 gallon aquarium kit - dimension of 24" wide x 8" deep x 16" high.

Looking for recommendatins on type and number of fish for this new aquarium.

I have that tank and i personally hate the leds tht it comes with. They dont grow plants well and they r soooooo dim. I got a coral life 24in t5 ho light and im goin 2 make it a reef. But even though i hate the light the tanks dimensions r very different, sort of cool though. I had 7 cardinal tetras and a pair of rams in mine. So i would recommend u gt a better light for it if u plan on planting it. Do u plan on planting it??? But for fish i would do a school of some small, fish, (ex. Cardinals, bloodfins, glowlights...ect) then some centerpiece fish like a pair of dwarf cichlids or a betta or somethin like tht. Than a couple ghost shrimp 4 CUC.

I don't plan on planting at this time. Since I am just starting, I want to focus on keeping fish alive.

Did you have any difficulty finding a new light for a tank with these odd dimension?

Welcome to the forum. That's perfectly understandable - less variables. Well at least to me it is :)

Since the tank is 24 inches long, you've got a lot more options than the number of gallons would suggest. You can certainly do a school of small fish with a pair of rams like tankman suggested - would be how I would stock it as well.

A pair of rams will be fine if u stuff the tank to the max with fake plants and some driftwood and some rocks. Make a lot of territories. If u can buy a proven pair u will be perfectly fine.
