Do you know of the nitrogen cycle?

Yeah, In general stores suck for advice, most of them simply care about getting money nothing else. Rarely do you actually want to take advice from them. "Whats that a 15" fish in a 20g tank, yeah that will work great!"The one that you asked about buying multiple tanks probably didn't take you seriously. Of course, it might be possible it's just taking time and he's trying to find a decent supplier for you.

One word of caution though, acrylic tanks do have thier own issues. If I recall correctly they cant be recaulked, and should it come to that you'll have to buy a whole new tank. Craigslist and other local online classified sites often have quality used tanks for sale and can save you a bundle of money. With taps and a drain you can do water changes relatively quickly. Some canister filters have the ability to hook up directly to the sink and you can fill and drain through the filter. Alternatively you can get a "python" which also hooks up to the sink. Allows a water change to be done in just a minute or two... unless it's a really big tank lol. Theres also a specific water changing machine I've heard about but dont really know anything.

Well, I'm still working on my fish house. Finally got some nice shelving from Office Max - cheap, sturdy, and nice looking. Have six tanks set up with a wet/dry sump - 40 gal, two 30 gal, two 20 gal and one 10 gal. Put the plumbing in, but haven'd glued the pvc in place yet. Put in an HVAC to heat and cool room instead of using tank heaters and have a dehumidifier. Have two water tanks, one for well water and one for RO water. It will be fall before I get fish in the tanks but I'm enjoying the process of setting the house up. Thinking about what fish to get - angels, killifish, mbunas, rams, panchax, kribs, are among the possibilities. Anybody had any good experiences with buying fish over the internet?

P.S. These are acrylic tanks. I know the arguments pro and con but I have had a 90 gallon acrylic tank in my house for 22 years and it's nearly as bright and clean as it was when new.
