in my experience pleco's can not eat tetras but suck on them if they are sick or dead.....Thats whent hey can eat them!

I believe that your clarias catfish is the fish that killed the tetras. In my books, it says they are aggresive.
If you care for your tetras, you should move them to another tank. if you don't have another tank then you should either buy one or return the tetras back to the lfs....
