Been about a week since I posted here. So an update of sorts.

Cycle, cycle, cycle. The tank is cycling without a filter. Well sort of. I checked nitrites late Sunday night and they were off the charts along with low ph. I did a 50% water change on Monday and hardened the water a degree. Yesterday no nitrites hurray! Maybe I can put my fish back in. I better check everything again to be safe. PH-6.0? Well that's low, but could be good. Ammonia-1.0 well that's not good, even if it's less toxic due to the low ph. Nitrites-0. Looks like my soft water crashed again. To be fair I didn't check ammonia this week up until yesterday. I think I will be doing a water change today and playing the filter shuffle to get an established filter on here.

Despite the recent water wonkiness some of my crypts are thriving. The Mi Oya still hates me though. The luteas all grew new leaves and never melted completely. A few of the other plants grew/are growing leaves as well.

I have a filter. It's one of the ones off my 29 gallon. Not clue how much bacteria is actually in it since it is part of a pair...in a tank housing nano fish...that scoffs when other people say their tank is overgrown. We'll see how it goes.

So I scrubbed the crap out of the pipes of this filter. Because I'm worried about disease? No. Because it was covered in algae? No. Because I dropped the prefilter sponge on the floor and it got covered in cat and ferret hair? Really specific guess and yes, but no. Because my 29 gallon has a tiny amount of aquarium herpes, aka duckweed? YES! A million internet points to however guessed that.

Yeah, yeah I know...some people like duckweed. Some people juggle geese (my eternal internet love/friendship to whoever gets that reference since you are awesome and I want to be your buddy). I don't get the love. I haven't set out to eradicate that stupid hitchhiker yet, but I will. I will feel my wraith and learn to fear me. Crypts are awesome and smart. They came to me in fear, knowing I was the boss. It's my way or death. Crypt seem to have a bit of a martyr streak though so that's not working out the best for me. Regardless duckweed must die a thousand deaths!

In case you didn't guess I might currently be in one of my slight to moderate hyper moods. I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested (I expect more guesses for that. I offer friendship!). I'm weird, no one is making you read this anyone. I like to think I'm eccentric. Pictures probably later to show the fearful crypts and what real, well behaved floaters look like.

One more thing for this post. Sometimes magic sounds like tape.

Soo for shits and giggles I had to look up the phrase "juggle geese" and I have to honestly say if it is from Firefly I have never seen that show.

Ohhh and I have fought that war you are about to par take in with that plant that shall not be mentioned. It was a long and drawn out battle. One that lasted many days and nights. One that finally ended up coming to an end with me tearing down my tank completely and scrubbing EVERYTHING!!!! I HATE THAT PLANT!!! It was a hitchhiker that I got when I first ordered plants.

I don't know if I would bestow that kind of wrath on Crypts as my luck they would just completely melt and then die! :(

LOL! Aquarium herpes!!! I actually understand your fight with duckweed! I'm trying to keep it out of my shrimp tank! Anything that goes in there from other tanks is rinsed of duckweed and then rinsed again. I TOTALLY understand the major scrub down.

Can't wait to see the well-behaved floaters and crypts!!

Firefly is the greatest show to ever be on TV. Hands down. Also so many great quotes! I'm a nerd though. lol I'm still not telling where the other two quotes came from. I was feeling very pop culture referencey earlier.

You guys are proving my point with the aquarium herpes jab. Once you have duckweed, you're never getting rid of it. I really do hate it.

I like Duckweed. And Wash. . .cuz' he's amazing like Johnathan, though Sheldon's somewhat less so. . . and sometimes you DO get stuck on moons for weeks straight, just have to pass the time. . .

Tape DOES sound like magic, because - simply put - IT IS. Most especially high on the magical tape list is Duct tape (as opposed to the masking variety). Duct tape makes me think of quacking, and my kids always tell me that I have lots of 'little quacks' on my arms after I've been doing my water changes. Little quacks are, in fact, duckweed. And guess what? It is *ALSO* magic. If it wasn't, you wouldn't have any problems banishing it! Duckweed. . . not that serious. Of course, I haven't tried getting rid of it yet, either. . . Say? Ya got any grapes?

I do think you've misjudged your crypts, though. They're awesome and smart, yes. But they don't fear you, they're arrogant, not frightened. . . stop trying to shove them around! They'll win the battle every time (glad they've decided to give you another chance) You've got it all backward, I think. . .

Do we still get to be friends? ;)

It's about time they figured it out, anyway. . . though I seriously doubt that those I see in here ever doubted the sanity - or lack thereof.

He's was right, you know. They WERE bone. . . that whole adamantium thing was just. . . not okay. Pretty slick how you snuck the EXTRA reference in there. I demand extra bonus points.

magician hats off to you

I thought I recognized that song!! Been ages since I heard it! And those little loaches are sooooo cute! They are going to look awesome in your tank! When will they be arriving?
Apparently when I can find half a steer for sale somewhere locally. Not even joking.

I plead the 5th. . . possession is 9/10ths and all that. You'll get your loaches, boy. At this point its *almost* about when you, and the universe, are ready for them. . .

Though I'd still give them a couple of weeks, they're starting to come around beautifully. The small one is plumping up and *almost* indistinguishable from the rest, and they're a hairsbreadth away from 'meh, hands. . .'

*luffs*

You can't get the Loaches till you find half a Steer?? **Scratches Head**

Well a quarter steer might do it too.

Jes is nervous about shipping them. So she needs an excuse to hand deliver them instead.

PS-I've watched the video a good 30 times today.

Love the lil loaches and Jes I didn't think the video was bad! Have you seen mine??? LoL
John, you do amazing things with that phone of yours. Give yourself some credit!

The thing with THESE fish is that they're so small, and the sand is so salt-and-pepper, you can't see them until they move. They're SO much cooler IRL! Really wish I could capture that for you guys, but I need ZOOOOM!

At first I was 0.o but nowwww I get it.

And yes. you can hardly see those guys until they move! And even then it looks like the substrate is moving. Kinda like with my farlowella... instead it's sand instead of a stick.
