Bought this Apisto today and it was labeled as "Blue Apisto." It's about 1.5" long now, so I assume a juvenile. This is my first Apisto. Can you give me any idea what type it is? There is a bit of blue speckling on the face that the photo does not show. Also, any idea on gender? Thanks! 007.jpg

It looks like a female Apistogramma macmasteri although to be 100% you would need to wait until it matures some.

It is a little young to be properly identified in terms of its sex.

Being stressed out doesn't help with the ID either.

Yes, I realize he/she is stressed out, being it's first day home with me. I was hoping it was a Steel Blue. Several in the tank had blue flecks on their cheeks, and so did this one. And the fact that "Blue" was scrawled on the tank also made me think that, after looking at pics online. Macmasteri, although, would work too, as both can handle my neutral/high PH. I tried to research as much as possible before buying one. I should have taken a pic of the other Apistos they had in the same tank. Black with white spots--very attractive. I can't remember how they were labeled, but if they get along with what I have, and the other tank mates, I'd like to try one. I'm going to try to find out what they are online. Can two Apistos of different species get along? I don't want fighting, and I don't want to breed because of the aggression factor. Thanks, guys!

I just saw your guess of curviceps, Quantum. Wow, I was actually also looking for a L. Dorsigera, and a curviceps had also entered my mind. Wouldn't that be something? I only paid $7.49 for the fish.
