Like the title says, I am excited to be getting into the world of fish tanks. I have a 55 gallon tank. I have yet to get fish because the tank isn't ready and I need to get a few more things before I am ready for fish. here is a pictures of what it looks like so far.

I will keep this thread updated as I upgrade my tank :) Comments/suggestions are always welcome! Constructive critisism never hurts!

Thanks for the replies.

I do need a few more plants. I didn't want to buy to many at first, because I wasn't really sure. But today I am heading to the store to get some more. I will of course post more pics.

The gravel also has some black mixed into it. Ill take a better picture and post it in a min :)

may i also ask what filter you have? it looks like a top fin filter, please not that top fin filters are very bad, i would suggest you buying a bio-wheel like the emporer or penguin models or get a wisper three part filtration that contains three different compartments

do to all your equipment it looks like you got the top fin starter kit, next time i wouldnt go with top-fin, the all-glass heater is also quite low quality, other than all this your tank looks great, the castle will provide many caves where the fish can hide, nice mix in gravel too

you can raise the water line bast the black area on the top of your tank to prevent those bubbles that i see near the filters outake, also placing the filter in the middle of the tank would be better so all parts of the tank will recieve good filtration.

are you going to upgrade your filter, with the upgraded filter you can still run the top-fin one as a backup as well as increased filtration

I dont know if your going the not so natural way but I can tell you now that 55 gallon tanks look great with some natural looking gravel the brownish tannish kind and live plants. Maybe if you can get ahold of any driftwood that would make it nice. I like the castle it will provide many hiding spots for fish.

good HOB filters are Emperor bio-wheel filters, Penguin bio-wheel filters, and Hagen three way filtration, with the latter being the not so good out of the three and the first being the best. You could go with canister, which is highly recomended but can cost a bit more.
