This morning I woke up and could only see one of my marble angelfish. After a bit of looking, I found the silver tucked between the Java ferns in hiding. Fearing it was sick, I proceeded to feed the fish and begging monitoring. After a couple of minutes, this silver slowly came out to eat and I got a good look at significant damage to its body. Moments later the marvel attacked. It sort of drifted to its side, flared its central find and pecked its mate back into hiding. Is I've been writing this the silver has poked its head out to mixed reactions from its mate.

They've spawned at least once before. I've been away at college so I don't know if this fighting is usual occupancy for them. I read that after a few failed spawns or just a few in general, Angels will separate to find new mates and then rejoin when there are no other available mates. I've also read that once one of the mated pair starts hiding, it's usually to late to salvage the couple.

I really like these two and would not want to have to sell one. Is it possible that they could reconnect or should I look into a divider, if that's even an option?

My sense is seperating them is a very good idea. Sounds like he will kill her anyway if she stays with him. him/her.... do you know which is being bullied?

Have you ever made a divider? What sized tank? There are awesome instructions in the DIY section of the Forum. I made one so anyone can!! Mine fit a 75 gallon and cost no more than $3-$5 including the gas to go get the parts. After a rest you can decide to try to reintroduce or rehome.
Wait too long and it won't matter, right?

Good luck!!

I was never able to figure it which was make or female. The bullied one is significantly larger than the marble. The silver seems to be quite the scaredy cat. If I enter my room to suddenly when the lights are off, she dashes.

I've never made a divider, and if DIY is possible I would waaay rather that then bought. Right now they're in a 29 gal. I've come to love their personalities so much, I could care less if I have a prolific breeding pair or not!

Thank you for the advice!

I don't have experience with breeding pairs fighting (hardly any experience breeding in general), but if the fish is really beat up it is best to separate it. If you do not, it may die. A separator may be a good idea if you do not have another aquarium. After she heals up you can try to reintroduce them. If they keep fighting, maybe the tank is too small for the particular two angelfish or needs more hiding places.

Drop in a divider. I've had pairs that could only be together when it was tubes down actually spawning time. They got sold as a proven pair once a viable spawn was produced, with a warning.
