Not much more than keep the fish calm at night. They give a sliver of light, mind you not enough for your enjoyment. For the fish it puts them at ease that a predator will not sneak up on them and eat them. Most tanks do not have adequate sunrise/sunset dimming so it can help buffer the shock of a complete lights out when the lighting is shut off. Some corals, it is claimed, will count the days of reduced lighting and time a spawn in accordance.

Just really think of it as a nightlight for your fish, like the one most of us had when we were 3.

When you moon lights come on you can also read them a bed time story to calm them even more. LOL

Pretty much it is just little LED lights usually blue. Some say it helps out corals, but that hasn't been proven. It is supposed to replicate the moon light over the ocean. Mainly I like it for looks, you can still look in the tank at night.

I like how the moonlight transition the tank. It doesnt go from lights on to lights off. Its neat to watch the fish hise when the lights go out. And the moonlights gives a calming effect in the tank. Some say they are not needed, but if you get them they are well worth it.
