I have a 29 gal. freshwater tank with various compatible species such as tiger barb, etc. I have had no signifigant problems aside from over feeding toxicity since the environment stabilized 6 months ago.
Recently, the fish have become light shy and will only feed when the florecent is turned off. The fish will hide behind rocks (real) and plants (all plastic). This behavior began during a heat wave when abient temps reached the 90 mark. I added frozen water in sealed containers to lower the temp and all fish survived. The tank never got over 86 deg. Now, when turning off the light, food or not, the fish immediately come out of hiding and swim around the environment normally. If the light is on they hide, regardless of the room's ambient temp. This behavior is a recent development and all fish moved about normally until approx a month ago.
I have checked the PH, as well as other water quality issues and all is within normal limits.
The light seems to be the wild card here.
Any suggestions, advice?
Thanks.
Phil
