Welcome back to TFK!

Looks kewl. Wow a Vortex diatom filter....takes me back. You'll find that if you run the diatom filter once a week for 30 minutes or so you'll have extreme crystal clear water. (It's too powerful to run routinely, but for a weekly or monthly maintenance it's awesome.)

Keep us posted.

Grats on your buy! I know you said you don't know what you plan to get fish wise. I saw those Wardley products and I'd like to warn you that they are pretty poor quality as per nutrition. So I wouldn't use them if I were you. There are better brands out there.

I bought some Wardley stuff by accident... blame a moment of disorientation at the fish store.

I read the ingredients when I got home. Wheat middlings was the first ingredient... really?

Stick with the NLS stuff.

Looking forward to pictures along the way.

Jeff.

Wow, that tank is going to look AWESOME when it clears up! I LOVE that cave on the far left, in the back. Did you make that with rocks, or buy it as is? It looks like one my Bolivian Ram would love. He has two, but is very picky about his caves, lol. What do you plan to stock it with?

I made my decision to go with a school of tiger barbs. About 20 or more . I just love how they chase each other around the tank.

Nothing over 6 inches will be added to this tank except for a 1 pleco and sandy(the cray fish) shes about five inches right now) .Just schools of fish .

But the only thing about sandy she was eating my plants but also she was not bothering the other fish when she was in the 30 gallon. So, i have to feed her pretty good so shes stay away from the plants . Its going to be Rough though . If she acts up ,She goes right back to the 10 gallon tank.

I went to the fish store to check out some backgrounds (that they didnt have )i coundnt resist what i saw swimming in the tank, Tiger barbs!! .So i pick up 11 tiger barbs for 8 bucks , grass plant 3 bucks and a beat up melon sword plant that will most likely will die for free.

I was going to wait a week to put fish in, but i said , what the hell ,might as well get them now since im here.

Good luck with your new tank.BTE that's a great looking piece of draft wood you got there.
Carl
Thank you carl(Do you mean the one in the middle of the tank?) .I had that one in my 30 gallon tank before super storm sandy destroyed that tank. And before that,it was used for my iguana in a 75 gallon tank for 3 years before he died ..Its been very use full thru out the years .its got to be at least 20 years old and its still solid, no mush to it at all ..If i remember ,i believe i paid 40 dollars for it back in the nineties.......

The other one came with the package of the tank....

The pcture isn't here now. I'd probably have to go back to the site to see it again. But it was was nice kind of plain looking. I like plain looking tanks. They look more realistic. I see you've also had many tanks before too.

I used to keep fish way back in the late sevenie and early eights. I just started keeping fish again. I've got a 55 that still in the box. when I got the tank. I realized that the hobbyhas changed so much. I though I'd put up a smaller tank to begin with so I got a 29.

I'm going to put up my 55 the end of June after school gets out. But getting back to your tanks. You saud you had a 30. I had a 30 long way back when. It was the most beautiful and the most perfect tank I've ever had. And it was given to me. Keep up the good work with your tanks and keep us updated on them.

I'm liking that driftwood too! Nice place for the fish to go under and hide also. The grass plant is nice--do you know what it is? A few patches of that stuff would be good for fry to hide in. The tiger barbs look fabulous, and very healthy. Congrats!

Im not pretty sure ,I'm a newbie in plants ,so im going to guess its a dwarf hairgrass .

I pick the barbs and the plant from a new pet store that just open two blocks from my house about a month ago .Their fish storage is low(about 10 tanks) ,but they said the will be adding a new room for more fish supplies in the future ..YES!! This is GOOD NEWS for me. No more traveling 5 miles to get fish supplies...

All there fish were healthy as i was checking them all out.(They take good care of them ).

You're so lucky to have a good fish store that takes good care of them (and hopefully isolates those who look sick). Its hard to find these days!

So are you doing a fish-in cycle? Or did your tank cycle in a week?

I like the look of the sandy bottom and you got some nice decorations going on in there.

im writing this really fast so please mind my grammar... even tho its horrible (lol)

Actually when i pick up the tank the same day the guy had african cichlids in the tank(i didnt want them). The filters and rocks already had bacteria on them(but the rock were really really fitly and they had to be cleaned) .So when i brought the tank home, i just left the filters in a bucket of water for two day or three with a 50 watt gallon heater ,Then after the three days i set up the tank ...so the bacteria is there ,but im going threw a mini cycle right now ,and there is still a little haze in the water right now ...
reading are great tho...as for now,im just doing 5 gallon water changes every other day..

I just raise the temperature in the tank to 85 from 79 and the barbs are loving it .
