i have one convict, a female in my 30g. now she can be a real bugger but she is very cool too. she comes to the glass and watches everytime someone is in the bedroom, if u sit and look at her she'll swim back and forth showing off her colors. her belly is a vibrant orange and if she's in a mood her dorsal fin is a really pretty iridescent blue/green. i know it's hard to have this fish with anybody else and she seems like she'ld be able to pump out the babies cause she's always laying eggs on our driftwood. all the lfs have tons and people buy them only to bring them back, usually with babies. they are a sassy fish but still an interesting and beautiful specimen. I mean the name should give away their attitude problem black convict!

everyone takes it out on cons because there small, mean and prolific but on the pros they are very hardy, long lived and have all the personality of there larger cousins the ones i keep will take food from the fingers..how many fish will do that ? most people take the attitude that small fish wont do any damage and buy them on inpulse only to get a tank of dead fish and hundred cons :D

I got a question about my cons so I guess I'll post it here and save another thread. I bought a mated pair because I like breeding fish and I suck at it. Anyways, they bred well, duh, an produced nice fry. After about the 3 batch the male started beating the hell out of the female running her into the corner and nipping her almost to death. Well I threw him in my 120g with my oscar where he has been rapidly growing to about 5.5inches+. My female looks fine now and looks REALLY ready again but I'm afraid to put them back together. Do you think they will get along long enough to mate so I can throw him back in the 120g. (They've been breeding in a 30g) What do you think?
