I bought a rubbernosed pleco the other day at the pet store..and noticed today that he has a couple itty bitty white spots on his fins. I believe it may me Ich. Should I treat with aquarium salt and raise the tank temp just in case? Temp is currently at 79 degrees.

Do the spots look like grains of salt? if your pleco behaving oddly?

Treatment for ich is best with temperature 86F or above. watch for changes in behaviour in response to temperature change... you dont want to stress him out too much.
My favorite "med" for ich is Kordon's ich attack. I've found it to work very well at 3-4 times the recommended dosage, 2 times a day. In my experience, this option can be costly if you have a fairly large tank.... and doesn't work well in the late stages of an ich/ velvet infection.

ok thank you. Ive seen Ich before, and these spots seem to be like micro grains of salt. Dont look as big as what Ive seen Ich to be. But Im afraid of letting it go, and having a horrible break out in my tank. He isnt acting weird or anything..still eating and swiming around.
