Hi guys,

This is my first post and I don't know how to start a new thread.

I have a 10 gallon tank with fish that needed a bigger tank. So I bought a sweet 55 gallon setup on Craigslist - it already had 9 tetras in it. Only 75 bucks. The tetras are going to have to find a new home since my fish are two Africans, a school of tiger barbs and a rainbow shark. I don't want the tetras getting eaten.

I don't know what to do with the tank now that I've got it. I haven't cycled something this big nor have I cycled something that I bought used. It appears clean and the tetras that were in it are healthy.

Any suggestions on a forum where I can learn how to clean and cycle a used 55 gallon tank? OR can someone tell me how to start a thread? I am really hoping that I can get my fish transferred into it soon.

Thanks for any help.

You have a thread now!
When I get a new tank, I typically get a small spray bottle and spray the inside of the tank down with a 5-10% solution of bleach. If there are hard water build-ups, a razor blade scrape takes care of that. Cycling a large tanks the same as a for a small tank. Start slow and build up your stock!
