Lets see...I have 5 juvi jacks; 6 black spotted barbs as of today; about 15 tiger barbs; 4 gold guromis (please forgive my spelling) ; 4 pearl guroumis (still doesn't look right lol); 6 yoyo loaches; 3 mini plecos; 10 small silver tetras; a few others mixed up in 2 planted 120g tanks...(well 2 until my jacks grow and start tearing up my plants anyway)...the jack dempseys are rather small right now and but once they start to partner, one tank will be strickly community and the other my larger fish like the jacks and spotted barbs - i will have to remove the other none paired jacks to avoid a blood bath too....so may replace with another large cichlid...

Hi...writing from my work desk, acting like I'm busy!!!....hee hee hee....one tank is a bit worse for wear and tear in my garage but still running (needs cleaning bigtime)....so, nothing all that exciting....my other is in my dining area - this one has my focus....but debating which I sould keep my cichlids in (lightly/medium planted) and which one should be the community (heavily planted) once I get the garage one up to par....right now, It's not critical as my jacks are so small...also considering a lone oscar, but if I get that I'll have to make my descion rather quick as these guys grow and grow....attached is an image of one tanks early on, before the plants filled in (long before the jacks)....trying to identify the plant with redish/light green "lilly like" leaves to the right of the pic next to the twigs...any ideas? I got it from a ma and pop fish store and it was un-labled - wanna get more....more later, better get back to work! Thanks everyone!!!

If you have the room Oscars are great! Probably one of my favorite big fish. If only I had space for a huge tank in my little house

Thank you Kuddos 2 U...that was very kind of you to say....oh, and gema - I absolutely love Oscars, the best is raising them from the time they're tiny and watching them both grow in personality and of course size....I wish that I could house more than one, but with a 120 - plus the soon to be mature jack couple and dither fish - I kinda think it would be too small and stressful of an enviorment.....instead I plan to stress my better half by constantly telling her of the necesity to "Go Large" and swap out a 120 for something huge....lol, we'll see (I doubt it - she loves dogs)....anyway, it's a joy to be able to talk with fellow fish lovers - my partners here at the station caught me typing this and are currently making fun of me - they thought I was working on a case because I was so enthusitic about both writing you guys back and looking at other posts and pics...oh well, they'll never know the joy, right? Ok, off for the night (maybe)....definately more later!!! Cheers and best wishes!!! - Mike

You could try and get your wife more interested in fish by getting her a small tank of her own, let her decorate it and stock it. Then she may let you get a nice big huge tank.
At least shes allowed two 120 gals, my husband has ristricted me to a 15 gal and a 5.5 gal.

Not to be out done...here's two of his blurry tank mates - both jacks....I love these guys when theyre so tiny....soon however, as these guys grow, I think I'll have more "floating plants" than rooted....and not by choice!!! Oh well - so much for a fancy planted tank!!! Rocks here I come!!! :-D

I love Oscars too! Long time ago I had 3 from babies to full-grown tug of war antics. Even with a 75g now I could not imagine putting one in there. :-(

I look forward to seeing your photo skills improve. lol. Hint: Take your pics at night with all the window daylight glare gone, lights off in the room, and only the light on the aquarium on. No flash ever. I put the camera angled, never straight on to the glass and touch the lens to the glass for stability or just a finger in between. Find your focus there and sit quiet on a chair and the fish will come see you and swim right into your camera view. Mine love to come see my Iphone... Got some amazing shots just from them being curious. Try that and we can't wait to see what you get.

A full shot of the tank would make us jump up and down too! :greenyay:

Thanks for sharing with us!!

I would tell him to go with the flo and ask him if you can get one a little bigger. I am not limited at all for the things I buy as my parents don't really care, which is a good thing. My sister also supports me in fish keeping as well.:-D

Your oscar is beautiful! The jacks too but I especially love the oscar. Although I can see him absolutely destroying those lovely plants. He could also be a good excuse to get a larger tank as he gets bigger.

All my photos come out blurry too. Its just a matter of taking 100 photos and picking out the 1 good one.
