My tank thermometer says my tank is 80°F (placed on the opposite side of the tank as the heater). My Mollys are always hanging out by the top of the heater where it meets the water. Should I turn up the temp?

If the tank is 80 degrees I wouldn't think you'd need to...

Sometimes they might even hang out at the top if its too warm since the dissolved oxygen level goes down.

Is this a new tank? Fish hang out at the surface when being poisoned by ammonia.

There is that ^
Or I would ask is there someone in the tank that bullys a little bit? I have found that fish being bullied like to "blend" in with the heaters and spray bars.
Yup, there is that too ^

There is a guppy in the tank who is a bit of a bully but I have only ever seen him bully the platys...never the Mollys.

I have had an ammonia issue I've been working on correcting. I am now down to 0.20 ppm ammonia (from 0.50 ppm) and have to do another water change soon.

Thanks for the insight.
