Hi there. I have a platy and a guppy who are showing labous sighns. I was watching the guppy like a hawk so then I saw a fry swimming but it was orange and I didn't see it come out of the guppy. The I noticed my orange platy was hiding and also showing sighns of labour. I then moved the platy to where the guppy is. She were with all the other fish on the other side of the devider. My question is, will they continue giving birth after I interupped them.

Probably (hopefully), but it's never a good idea to make changes or cause disruption when live bearers are in the late stages of pregnancy, and especially when they're in the birthing process. It's better to do what you can after the fact and learn from experience. Hope things work out well for you.

My guppy finally gave birth two days later too all her fry but most of them where born dead why is that?

Most of what I have been able to gather points to stress. Supposedly, premature births of only a couple of days can cause this. She'll have more babies. I'd make sure her tank has plenty of floating plants and places for her to hide. This will help her be more relaxed. Good feeding and tank maintenance are very important, of course. Most live bearers prefer slightly-moderately hard water with an alkaline PH.

I do a 30% water change once a week. Doesn't water changes also stress the fish out? I also feed them 2 times a day and give them freezed bloodworms once a week I have another guppy pregnant now she wil be delivering any day from now to next week. I read that some guppies are pregnant 21 days and some more than that. So hopefuly I can get all these babie alive.

Water changes almost certainly cause some stress; however, I think there is a trade off. The improvement in water quality prevents the more long term stress caused by declining water quality. I try to make the process as comfortable for the fish as possible. Good luck with the new babies.

Thanx. I already did a water change yesterday. But today I found two guppy babies dead I have lost more than half of what was bourn why would that be?

It's probably natural that some will be born dead. I've never been so observant to be able to tell how many or what percentage were born dead. I just notice the ones that are swimming around and try to make sure they have good cover and receive appropriate food. As with humans, some will have more problems with pregnancy. If all of your guppies came from the same line, it could be an inherited trait. Guppies are pretty tough; however, they have their limitations. If the water is too soft and acid, that could certainly add to the issues. Get a test kit that gives readings for ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, PH, GH, and KH. By doing the tests and then checking the guppy profile here on the site, you might be able to pinpoint the problem.

Thanx I wil certainly look into it. As soon as I get the money for it. I have aqua safe. I put it in when I do water changes. Do you know it? It is supposed to remove all the stuff that's bad for the fish

Typical water conditioners remove or detoxify chlorine, chloramine, heavy metals, and sometimes ammonia. They don't tend to have an impact on PH and water hardness. You could probably get info about GH (gereal hardness), KH (carbon hardness) and PH directly from you water company. I received a very thorough and friendly reply from mine when I emailed them. Try doing this with your company. Tell them that you are in the aquarium hobby and that you need this info to know what your water conditions are coming out of the tap. Ask for general hardness, carbon hardness, and PH of your tap water. If they don't break down the numbers for you, we can figure that out.

Livebearers like guppies and platies can store sperm and continue giving birth after the male has been removed.
