Oto's are notoriously difficult to keep alive from all accounts.

Mush, how did cyanide get into your fish tank??

Shrimp are natural puffer food so i doubt you will keep them alive. Im suprised the octos are still alive how long have they been "coexisting"?

Otos aren´t that difficult to keep if you follow a few rules. Most tank keepers keep their tank pretty clean which means there is lack of nutrition for the otos. You can cover this by feeding them with vegetables. They will love it even if it first seems they don´t like it. Try it a few times and you will see they like a peeled piece of cucumber, salad, fennel, broccoli, etc. .

Keeping them with the puffer fish, well, uhm, puffer fish aren´t a good species to get along with other fish but if it is fed good, there might not be any problems at all. I guess that depends on the puffer itself.
Anyway, it´s possible, that the otos will live much longer than the puffer if the puffer´s fed the wrong way. Those guys usually need snails for their teeth or something else to chew on otherwise their teeth willl grow until it´s not possibel to eat anything.

thanks for the link. i just gave them a couple baby pond snails and they ate them, also fed them blood worm.
That´s good. :)

I always thought about keeping a puffer myself but I´ve never did it because I don´t have enough snails to feed a puffer on a daily basis. That might chance when my pond is running but until then I won´t do it.

...in my case, there should have been enough food...I even let the glass get a bit green for them...but there's algae on the rocks and on some of the leaves of the plants (live)...and I have algae wafers on hand as well...

...not a clue as to what went wrong :( I'm wondering if they came in too stressed from being shipped?

its a wild guess since it died from causes i cant explain. The cyanide poisoning was when it was caught in the wild. Its my best guess since it was fine for once second and dead the next. There is no cyanide in my tank dont worry :)

As for the food, some people succesfully feed there otos algae pellets as the main diet, others feed vegetables as a main diet, for me, they dont like either of that. Mine only eats algae growing in the tank, that being said tehy do a good job of keeping teh tank walls clean

I wouldnt consider 4 days as successful coexisting... Thats like putting a wild lion in my house and me having to run from room to room. Im sure i could make it 4 days but if i kept it up id be coexisting with its digestive tract.

a puffer is a puffer, it COULD work but i wouldnt count on it.
