I have a 14g tank with a sorority of 6 bettas, all young. I have 6 glowlight tetras with them. I keep the filter pump low so that the surface isn't disturbed too much for the bettas but I've noticed lately that the tetras are spending some time cruising the surface in a nose up attitude. I can't tell if this is for air or for food. Or is it just normal behavior?

Thanks,
Sally

Have you checked the water parameters? You stated that you have only recently noticed this. This should ring bells with you, how long have you had them for?

Water params are fine. The poor guy died in the month since posting but the other five are fine. I have had two female betta deaths in the last three days so I'm concerned, have no idea why but I don't think it is related to the tetra's death.

When you say parem's are fine, may you be more specific than that? What are the readings you are getting? Have you added anything to the tank recently? Has anything changed at all? As someone oncd told me, the answer is right in front of you, it is going to have to be a process of elimination.

How many fish and what types, is it planted or not? Are you using gases, chemicals, filtration, I.e. carbon? CO2? Have you added anything lately? has the tank re-cycled These may seem basic, and stupid questions, but they will lead you in the direction.
