I have been looking for a while but have not been able to find one. I would love to have some sort of crab but I do not want to set up a vivarium right now. I want one that is fully aquatic and does not need to come out of the water, ever.

Is there any such creature? If there is, are there any that are completely fresh water or are they all brachish and salt?

Not that I know of, Fish. I'm aware of many ornate and sometimes large shrimp from the Amazon, but its been years since I've been on a research trip to the basin. I've seen crabs going in and out, but the only fully aquatic crustacea I've seen were the shrimp.

there are no 100% true aquatic freshwater crabs, however there are a few that only occasionally have been seen on land, giving the reasonable argument that they spend most of their time in water.

look for Sesarma bidens & Sesarma sp both commonly called red claw crab or red crabs. both hail from Sri Lanka and only appear on land during the rainy season.

also any of the genus Brachyura crabs from South America are hardly ever found on land.

My LFS carries these. They're a freshwater crab and are mostly aquatic. I don't have any sort of vivarium; I just have the water level lowered about an inch or so below where I'd normally keep it. I then positioned a piece of driftwood so that about 1/2 inch of it sticks out of the water. The crab occasionally spends time on top of this log out of the water and seems to be fine like that. I also set it up so that this log isn't directly under the aquarium lights since I didn't feel like paying $3.50 for a tiny baked crab.

Yes, I have pom pom crabs in my tank and they do very well and live alongside my shrimp and other tropical fish
