About 6 months ago, I purchased 4 male and 2 female Endlers Livebearers for my community tank. When I saw a few babies, I scooped them up to keep them from becoming a meal for some of my other fish. I raised them (about 10) in a second tank until they were large enough to fend for themselves, then reintroduced them to the community tank. Before long (probably 2 months) I had well over 50 of them, probably more due to the plants providing good cover.

When it appeared that this problem was growing exponentially, I decided to take action. I dragged out two small tanks and added water from the community tank. Then I pulled out all of the extraneous items so it was nothing but water gravel and fish. After about 2 hours, I removed all the females into one new tank and all the babies into the other small tank, leaving the males in the community tank. As the babies, show their colors and are obviously male, they go back into the community tank.

I would like to give away all of the babies and all but one or two of the females, because my wife keeps reminding me that she only agreed to one tank.

So any suggestions on a good way to give away my "extras" will be appreciated (I've tried friends relatives, schools, workplaces, etc.).

Also, I'm assuming that if I add one female back to the community tank, I'll be in the same situation in 6 months. SO do you recommend getting rid off all my females since I need to get down to one tank?

Have you tried a local pet store? also, I wouldn't put one female in with all of those males. The poor thing would just end up being constantly harrassed and you would definately end up with more babies again.

I know the feeling, have 3 guppies that seem to like to constantly breed. I wish I could grab some of them from you! Iv done some research on them and I think they would be perfect in my tank, except for my guppies but i can always move them. Good luck sending them to good homes!

I haven't (contacted stores) because I thought that they may be worried about diseases. While, I am pretty sure my fish are disease free, I can't guarantee it so I've avoided that option. I have some beautiful males, so I'm sure the females will make good stock for breeders. However, I'm just not into breeding. Too many other hobbies.

I sell my excess Endlers and have a ton of them in outdoor pools for the summer. You could place them on Aquabid for $30 plus shipping and they would go poof!

With so many in your vats and pools, what's a few more? I like your "vats" as a good way to raise fry.

One of my largest Mollies had fry today, so that is 43 more babies to take care of. Some other older babies are just beginning to get colors and styles, so am holding them until I can tell male or female, color, and such. I remember what you said about the sailfins and lyretails. Now it is a waiting game.

But when they have grown for a few more months, I will probably have the problem that EndlessEndlers has -- way too many Mollies on my hands. Will you PM me on the way to reduce the population, and make sure they will survive shipping to other places. I used to have a gift store, so understand about the packaging, but want to know the easiest way to do that in the fall. You seem to have plenty of experience with live stock. I looked at the breathing bags, and wonder how to pack them safely. Thanks for all the advice you can give me!

I'd be glad to ship as many as someone would want but my only concern is that someone would send me the cost of shipping and the fish would die along the way. I've purchased several fish through mail order and have the insulated containers to ship in and since I have plenty, if a few don't make it, most should. But I do care about the fish want them to arrive safely.

I was hoping I could find someone in Western MD who might take them, but I'd consider sending them if there were no implied guarantees. If you set up a Paypal account people can forward shipping cost and any Paypal fees associated with the total. I have the DIY Betta Project and all I ask is people pay shipping. As for shipping, I can tell you the easy way to do it and I have never lost a fish.

Most Fish Have a New Home

I went to our local PetSmart and asked the fellow in the fish department if he would be interested in my female and baby Endlers Livebearers and he enthusiastically said yes. So we brought him about 60 fish and he put them in a 55 gallon tank. I kept 3 of them for some dumb reason.

My only fear is that these may wind up as feeder fish which isn't what I had intended. I am hoping that one of the 3 that I kept will be another colorful male. Then I will bring any non males back to PetSmart.

Of course my offer still stands if anyone wants these remaining fish, I will give them to you. Take care

First off let me start with I am amazed that you are having trouble finding these fish a home. Endlers are a hot thing in the right places. I have just recently gotten ahold of a few male and female black bars. What kind of endlers are they? How many do you have? The thing is anyone who knows about endlers they would have taken them off your heads right away. I have never shipped before but depending on what kind and how many I would be more than willing to take them off your hands. And I would not use them as feeders. I just bought a separate 10 gallon tank because I saw some feeders at LFS that had such amazing color I had to buy them.

Oh wow just saw your location. I was just in MD on vacation I'm from there. I bought my Endlers there and drove them half way across country with me. I would have taken all of your unwanted fish. Wow

Too bad. Well I've gotten rid of most of them to the local pet store but fish are kind of unique. Several of the males have some white on them in addition to the various colors. At first I thought that they might have some sort of fungus but after closely monitoring them for about 2 months, it is definitely a part of their color scheme. I sort of like them and wonder if there is as a desire for white, red, black, and blue endlers. I have a lot of males without the white, but I'm wondering if I should try to breed some of the white ones. Maybe they aren't that unique but I thought they were.
