so im finally getting back to finishing my other 55 gallon tank. now im having a problem choosing between these two filters. i have a 306 on my other 55 gallon. i really like it does a good job and it is almost silent. i got a great deal on it. now ive been reading good reviews about the xp2 and the price is close to what i paid for my fluval. does anyone have experience with this filter? is it well made? is it close to silent? hows the build quality of the unit? im not sure i like the media set up in the xp2 compared to the fluval. i do like the spray bar comes with the kit for the xp2 and that the hoses look like good construction compared to the fluvals black hose.

Well... I will finally be setting up my xp4 later today and I'll let you know what I think of it. I'm sure it will be a bit of an emotional adjustment for me:lol: because I have really grown to love all of my fluval filters(HOBs) and my 2 eheims(canisters)... which both are very similar in concept with the media set up. And looks like the XP is VERY different..plus it feels weird seeing detailed intructions in english unlike the eheim and fuvals comical instructions which basically say - set up filter intall in tank ..plug in- lol
Almost makes me want to use the instructions. maaaybeee

Will do! ..only thing I will say is I know I'm going to tweak it a bit. I want a spray bar not the nozzel it comes with. I'll be sure to let you know what I think of it
and yes ..I looked at the instructions on my first fluval and after reading the 3 or what maybe 4 words which they considered instructions I was expecting at least another line saying "and good luck mo' fo'!" lol

I assumed that too till someone else got one and hers didn't. No biggie.. not the first time and surely not the last time I have altered a filter. So with an XP4 not having a spray bar I'd be willing to bet the smaller ones don't come with one either.

LOL... fish addicts. Actually only spray bar and intake alterations I've done were on one of my eheims. Chopped off a bit to make different lengths to fit where I want. I've just DIYed the [email protected]# out of cheaper filters to make them actually keep a cycle better then they did before I screwed with them. However I'm sure plumbing section at a hardware store you could easily find the right stuff then drill holes and cap it.

I used 5/8" soaker hose for my spraybar. It lets the water do a little seeping rather than just spraying so the flow is slowed down... and it's almost black so it disappears against the black background.

Two slightly modified 90's, two small hose clamps, some length of soaker hose... a little cutting some drilling (as much as you can drill soaker hose... poking holes anyway)

I think I have two now, different hole configurations to try out as I didn't like the first one and didn't want to work with wet soaker hose so I just made a second and swapped them.

I wouldn't go back to just a funny spout output unless I needed the directed flow for some reason.

Jeff.

Well personally so far my opinion is... Well it's stupid that it doesn't include the all the parts. Dumb.. but hey..the do have instructions..however I found fluval and eheim instruction to be a good laugh ;-).
as a filter...asside from having to buy everything in freakin pieces..it's looking good so far. I'll judge more thorough once I've forgiven them for not letting you know you need to get most of the media yourself and the spray bar too.. Get it together API..or give it back to Rena:whip: (How can API be a "parent" company to something that was better?)

yeah ive had it running for about 12 hrs now and seems to be doing its job. im a little disappointed that it didnt come from factory with the spray bar but thats fine i suppose. the only this ive found so far i dont like is it is a little bit louder then my fluval 306 and this morning it was making a bit of a water trickling noise which i stopped. so thus far im satisfied with it. we will see how it goes once fish is added to the tank.

Just wanted to drop my .02 in regards to canister filters. I really like the Marineland canisters. I have 3 of them 2 C-220's and a 160. Not only do they include a full description down to every screw in the canisters on the instructions but they also all include all media needed and a DVD with instructions as well in case you can't follow the very complete written instructions.

The price is also phenomenal IMO.

I use a custom PVC spray bar on all of them along with a surface skimmer for the intake.
