My male Odessa Barb which I have had for a little over a year has started to swim upside down and his tail fin looks in rough shape. He also looked like he was coughing up some kind of white powder or something. I had a Betta in there that ended up with dropsy a couple months back, he was removed and ended up dying. The Barb now also has a swollen belly. Water parameters are good. The tank has been cycled for well over a year now. It's not overstocked.

That doesn't sound good :( Do you have sand for substrate or gravel?

Were there any kind of sinking wafers for bottom feeders in the tank? My rainbows and barbs try to fit those in their mouths and will swim around with them until they dissolve.

I feed them normal Tetra brand fish flakes. No bottom feeders so no wafers of any kind. I have gravel for my substrate.

He seemed ok today. Did a WC yesterday. Trying to figure out who's nipping his tail fin. Still looks bloated so i'm hoping it's bloat or something. Hoping the pea trick will work. What are some tips with the pea trick? No feeding for a couple days before?
